IV. Trade and Investment Regulation
The Competition Act is Canada’s antitrust legislation. It is legislation of general application. The Act reflects classical economic theory regarding efficient markets and maximization of consumer welfare. It is administered and enforced by the Competition Bureau, a federal investigative body headed by the Commissioner of Competition. The Act may be conveniently divided into three principal areas: criminal offences, civilly reviewable conduct and merger regulation.
