Now in force on a provisional basis, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union (EU) and its member states creates a “free trade area” between the EU and Canada. For Canadian businesses, this means “national treatment” and non-discriminatory market access to 500 million EU consumers. CETA will also likely attract EU investment in Canada as a result of EU businesses hoping to access the NAFTA region.
