Matt's practice covers a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, and corporate governance. He advises purchasers, vendors and targets on domestic and international transactions, and his experience includes acting for clients in a variety of sectors, including the private equity, financial services, cannabis, and manufacturing sectors.

In 2014, Matt was seconded to a large telecommunications firm, where he worked on a number of general corporate matters. In 2012-13 Matt clerked at the Ontario Court of Appeal for Chief Justice Warren Winkler and Justice Gloria Epstein.

Matt is also an active member of the Blakes Cannabis group and frequently writes on matters relating to the industry.

  • Encore Consumer Capital on its sale of Atlantic Aqua Farms and its affiliated entities to Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan
  • Meltwater on its C$38.25-million acquisition of Infomart from Postmedia
  • Advising numerous licensed or soon-to-be licensed Canadian cannabis producers on acquisitions, corporate structure and governance matters, and commercial agreements
  • Patricia Industries, a part of Sweden's Investor AB, on its acquisition of Laborie Medical Technologies from Audax Private Equity
  • McKeil Marine on its sale to TorQuest Partners.
  • Wells Fargo on its acquisition of GE Capital's commercial distribution finance and vendor finance businesses

  • Johnson Electric on its C$800-million acquisition of Stackpole International

  • Suncor on the sale of its 50 per cent interest in Pioneer Energy to Parkland

  • Access Prairies Partnership in achieving financial close on the Saskatchewan Hospital North Battleford design, build, finance and maintenance project

  • Standard Life on the C$4-billion sale of its Canadian insurance business to Manulife

  • Canadian Tire Financial Services on a strategic partnership with the Bank of Nova Scotia, including the sale of a 20% interest in its credit card business for C$500-million
