Thomas is a lawyer, patent agent and trade-mark agent.  His practice includes patents, trade-marks, copyright, industrial designs, open source software, IP transactions, licensing and other intellectual property matters.

Thomas drafts and prosecutes patent applications for electrical, computer/software and mechanical inventions. He regularly advises clients on a wide range of corporate and commercial transactions involving technology and intellectual property assets.  He also manages trade-mark portfolios in a variety of industries.

Prior to practising law, Thomas worked for over five years at a leading semiconductor company designing reconfigurable integrated circuits and developing software. He is the co-inventor of several issued patents in this area.

  • Summit Partners on its investment in Aeryon Labs Inc.

  • Ericsson Canada in connection with its acquisition of BelAir Networks Inc.

  • Altera Corporation on its acquisition of Avalon Microelectronics Inc.

  • Cerberus Capital Management LP on its acquisition of automotive parts supplier ABC Group Inc.

  • Johnson Electric Holdings Limited on its C$800-million acquisition of Stackpole International

  • Agrium Inc. on its C$85-million sale of its turf and ornamental business to Koch Agronomic Services, LLC

  • RBC Capital Markets, as agent, in connection with a C$155-million credit facility in favour of MOSAID Technologies Incorporated

  • Audax Private Equity in connection with its acquisitions of LifeMark Health Corp., Viewpoint Medical Assessments and Altasciences Company
