Elizabeth's practice focuses on the regulation of financial institutions and other financial services providers, including banks, foreign banks, captive finance companies, payday lenders, insurance companies, trust companies, loan companies, participants in the payment card industry and fintechs.

She has particular expertise in both federal and provincial consumer protection and cost of borrowing legislation, including the application of these laws in the online environment.

Elizabeth frequently assists vehicle and equipment lessors and financiers in developing and modernizing their customer-facing agreements (consumer and commercial). She also provides advice on debt collection, unclaimed property, anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism financing and sanctions laws.

Elizabeth advises domestic and international clients on a broad range of corporate and commercial matters, including new product offerings, outsourcing arrangements and transactional matters.

Elizabeth is fluent in French.

SELECT EXPERIENCE

Selected recent representative transactions include:

  • Canadian counsel to Wells Fargo & Company on its C$32-billion proposed acquisition of GE Capital's Commercial Distribution Finance and Vendor Finance Businesses

  • Sale of the majority of Citigroup Inc.'s North American commercial lending and leasing business to GE Capital

  • External counsel to CIBC on their agreement with Borrowell Inc. for the provision of online loan origination services
