Evan's practice focuses primarily on assisting clients with general corporate and commercial matters, mergers and acquisitions, project development, joint ventures, reorganizations and various other types of transactions.

In 2016, Evan was seconded to the firm's Gulf offices in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. During that time, he acted on a number of corporate and transactional matters involving some of the largest private and state-owned enterprises in the Middle East as well as Canadian and other international clients investing and operating in the region.


Recent representative matters include acting for:

  • Agrium Inc. in connection with the divestiture of Agrium’s Conda Phosphate Operations in Idaho and its North Bend nitrogen facility in Ohio, undertaken in connection with its US$38-billion merger of equals with Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan Inc.
  • Cenovus Energy Inc. on the sale of its Palliser crude oil and natural gas assets in southeastern Alberta to Torxen Energy and Schlumberger for C$1.3-billion
  • Cenovus Energy Inc. on the sale of its Suffield crude oil and natural gas assets in southern Alberta to International Petroleum Corporation for C$512-million
  • Suncor Energy Inc. in connection with the C$1.13-billion sale of its Petro-Canada lubricants division to HollyFrontier Corporation
  • Enercapita Energy Ltd. on the acquisition of assets in the Worsley Area, Alberta for approximately C$100-million
  • An international commodities marketer in connection with large-volume, long-term grain supply, put-through and elevation services and off-take arrangements in connection with the development of a U.S.-based grain export terminal
  • Sadara Chemical Company, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, on various project development and petrochemical offtake and sales agreements for its petrochemical complex located in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, as well as general corporate matters
  • Cenovus Energy Inc. on the sale of its wholly owned subsidiary, Heritage Royalty Limited Partnership, to Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan for C$3.3-billion
  • A Saudi investment and development company in connection with the creation of a Saudi joint venture with a multinational technology company
  • Agrium Inc. in connection with a series of acquisitions related to its retail agriculture and fertilizer businesses in Alberta and Saskatchewan
