Mathieu's practice focuses on environmental, aboriginal, energy, climate change and mining law. He also provides corporate and commercial advice to clients and plays a role in various aspects of merger and acquisition transactions.

With respect to environmental law, Mathieu advises clients on environmental and regulatory requirements, including with respect to greenhouse gas emissions obligations, protection of agricultural land requirements, and waste management and hazardous substances management regulation.

He has been involved in various transactions in the mining and energy sectors. In particular, he advised a pipeline company in connection with various pipeline projects in Quebec in accordance with the National Energy Board Act.

Mathieu took part in the negotiations leading to the adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change as a party delegate of the Republic of Palau.

Mathieu is fluent in English and French.
