Mathieu's practice focuses on environmental, Aboriginal, energy, climate change and mining law. He also addresses issues of corporate social responsibility, lobbying and ethics.

With respect to environmental law, Mathieu advises clients on environmental and regulatory requirements, including protection of agricultural land requirements, waste management and hazardous substances management regulation, as well as energy efficiency requirements at both the federal and provincial levels.

Mathieu is also involved in challenging environmental administrative monetary penalties and filing other proceedings before administrative tribunals, including the Tribunal administratif du Québec, la Commission de protection du territoire agricole du Québec and the Canadian Transportation Agency.

In addition, Mathieu has specific expertise related to climate change, particularly greenhouse gas emission regulatory requirements and various carbon pricing mechanisms. In this respect, he took part in the negotiations leading to the adoption of the Paris Agreement on climate change as a member of the delegation of the Republic of Palau.

Mathieu regularly takes part in various transactions in the mining, energy and rail transportation sectors. He advises pipeline companies, among others, in connection with pipeline projects in Quebec in accordance with the National Energy Board Act and is involved in negotiating agreements with landowners.

Mathieu is fluent in English and French.
