In 2009, Blakes became the first Canadian law firm to establish a significant presence in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) with an office in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, through an exclusive association with the firm of Dr. Saud Al-Ammari, a Blakes Partner.
Al-Khobar is an important commercial and industrial centre in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, an area that is the backbone of the Saudi energy sector. Known for the world’s largest crude oil reserves, this region has recently seen a breakthrough in non-oil industrial development with the growth of the Kingdom’s industrial cities, including Jubail, where the largest petrochemical complex in the Middle East is located.
The Gulf Region offices advise our global clients on emerging opportunities in the Middle East, as well as representing and counselling local investors, businesses and others pursuing opportunities and investments around the world. Dr. Saud Al-Ammari, Chair, Saudi Arabia and Gulf Region, and Scott Burrell, Managing Partner, Gulf Offices guide a team of lawyers, working in concert with our other offices, and provide advice on complex legal issues facing companies in the Gulf Region.
Expertise in key sectors include energy, infrastructure, securities, banking and Islamic Finance, mining, communications, technology, arbitration, litigation and general business, as well as M&A and private equity.
