Tariq Remtulla is an Associate in the Intellectual Property Group. His practice focuses primarily on intellectual property litigation, including patent, copyright, trade-mark and counterfeit disputes. Tariq's practice also encompasses general commercial litigation, as well as trade-mark prosecution, protection, opposition and enforcement. His experience includes assisting clients in commercial transactions involving intellectual property and related technology, as well as marketing and advertising law, specifically advising clients with respect to contests and promotion laws.
Tariq obtained his juris doctor from the University of Toronto and his bachelor of arts in biology and South Asian studies from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2006, he was seconded to the legal department of Coca-Cola Ltd.
Tariq works with several of the Firm's pro bono clients and is actively involved with the Small Claims Duty Counsel program and the LAWS/Blakes mentoring program. He sits on the Firm's Equity & Diversity Committee and is a member of the Equity Advisory Group of The Law Society of Upper Canada. Tariq is a volunteer with the South Asian Legal Clinic of Ontario and served as a board member from 2002 to 2006. He is currently a board member of the Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention.
Tariq is a member of the Ontario and Canadian Bar Associations and the Toronto Intellectual Property Group. He is also a member of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and serves on IPIC's Anti-Counterfeiting Committee. Tariq has published in the areas of trade-mark and copyright law.
