Simon Finch practises in our Financial Services Group. He joined the Firm from the law department of Royal Bank of Canada in 1998, and became a Partner in 2002. Simon's practice focuses on lending transactions, acting both for borrowers and lenders. He has extensive experience structuring and negotiating syndicated loans, asset-based loans, project financings and debt capital market transactions. In particular, Simon frequently provides advice with respect to acquisition financings, including leveraged buyouts and tender-offer financings for public companies. He also maintains a complementary banking, corporate and insolvency practice. Simon has developed particular expertise in the mining and infrastructure sectors.
As cross-border lending and security continues to become more prevalent in Canada, Simon's practice has developed a strong international component. His clients include numerous foreign financial institutions, private equity funds, corporations and law firms, who retain him to assist with the Canadian aspects of multi-jurisdictional financings.
Simon is a member of the Firm's Opinions Committee, and has been responsible for developing the Firm's precedent documentation for secured financings. He is a frequent participant in conferences and panels, and has written and spoken about a wide variety of commercial lending issues.
