Steve Ashbourne practises commercial and securities law, focusing primarily on structured finance transactions, including asset-backed financings and derivative transactions. Prior to attending law school at the University of Toronto, he studied economics at the University of Western Ontario (Hon.B.A.).
Steve is recognized in the Lexpert Directory as one of the leading lawyers in Canada.
He has been involved in numerous securitization transactions, including revolving credit card and wholesale dealer receivables programs, as well as in structuring a number of complex private and public market derivative and other financial products. Several of these transactions have involved novel applications of existing securities legislation and policy. Steve's practice also extends to more traditional banking and capital market transactions, including reorganizations, syndicated credit arrangements, special warrant transactions and initial public offerings.
Steve joined Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP in 1989 as an articling student and has been practising at the Firm since being admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1991. Steve became a Partner of the Firm in 1997.
