Marianne Smith, a Partner in the Blakes Corporate & Commercial group, was interviewed by Corporate Knights magazine on diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

The interview followed the recent publication of a report that showed business leaders across the country now recognize diversity as a competitive advantage.

 “During interviews almost everyone I speak with asks about diversity, regardless of their personal circumstances. And when we recruit young [LGBTQ] lawyers, they are, by and large, out in the recruiting process,” said Marianne, who is a member of the Blakes Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

“Millennials can’t imagine not being their whole selves at work,” said Marianne. “When you can’t be your whole self at work, that can have a negative impact not only on you but on team dynamics and morale.”
