Laura has a diverse practice that includes complex commercial litigation, international arbitrations, class actions and constitutional litigation. She has acted for clients in a number of industries, including news media, telecommunications, transportation, financial services and manufacturers of food and consumer products. Her experience includes wide-ranging business disputes, contract cases, media and defamation, maritime law, product liability and class actions, injunctions and constitutional matters. Laura has appeared as counsel at different levels of court, including the Federal Court of Canada, the Ontario Superior Court, and various administrative tribunals.

Prior to joining Blakes, Laura clerked for Justices John M. Evans and Wyman W. Webb at the Federal Court of Appeal. During her clerkship, she worked on a variety of civil, administrative, maritime, tax, and constitutional appeals.


Laura's recent experience includes:

  • Counsel in matter invoking treaty limitations of liability arising from shipping accident and loss of cargo

  • Counsel to a leading consumer goods manufacturer in a class action alleging negligent design, testing and manufacture

  • Counsel in international arbitration arising from patent license agreement (ICDR)

  • Counsel to large media organization in appeal and constitutional challenge relating to freedom of information legislation

  • Counsel to several news outlets in cases alleging libel and slander
