Greg specializes in negotiated mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and joint ventures. He is also the relationship partner for many leading corporate clients.

In the financial services area, Greg's M&A clients include international and national companies in the banking, insurance and leasing areas. He has acted for both purchasers and sellers of financial businesses in many recent cross-border and Canadian transactions, including banks, insurance companies, leasing companies, credit card portfolios, bank loan portfolios and the like.

Greg's M&A expertise also includes advising national and international buyers and sellers in knowledge-based industries, including software and pharmaceuticals, and in the automotive/heavy machinery area. He has also been extensively involved in negotiating, structuring and implementing joint venture arrangements among regulated and non-regulated financial institutions, particularly in e-business areas.

  • Standard Life plc on the C$4-billion sale of its business in Canada to Manulife

  • Transamerica/Aegon on the C$600-million sale of its business in Canada to Wilton Re/CPPIB

  • Industrial Alliance on its acquisition of Jovian Capital Corporation

  • Intact Financial Corporation on a C$2.6-billion acquisition of the Canadian insurance businesses of AXA S.A. and in the subsequent sale of the AXA Canada life business to SSQ

  • A major global bank on its sale of an C$8-billion Canadian credit card portfolio to the Toronto Dominion Bank

  • An international bank on the sale of its C$2-billion MasterCard credit card portfolio to a large Canadian bank

  • An international bank on the sale of its mutual fund servicing outsourcing system to a global IT services and solutions provider

  • CIT Financial on the sale of its Dell financing business to Dell

  • CIT Financial on the sale of its 50 per cent interest in CIBC Equipment Financing to CIBC

  • A global heavy equipment manufacturer on the Canadian aspects of its acquisition of a competitor

  • Gate Gourmet on its acquisition of the airline catering business of Cara Foods

  • A major automotive group on the Canadian aspects of the sale of one of its luxury-car manufacturers
