Ian practises domestic and international tax law with a particular focus on tax implications of new technologies and technology start-up businesses, on which he has written and presented to various groups. Ian’s interest is formed by a background in mathematics and experience working at a Toronto technology start-up company developing new tools for legal practice. Recent matters in which Ian has been involved include providing tax advice to a substantial sharing economy business and several cryptocurrency-related businesses.
Ian also has experience with a range of other areas of tax practice, including mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, financings, restructurings and Ontario real estate tax.
Prior to joining Blakes, Ian was a visiting fellow at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law and practised for two years with a prominent New York-based international law firm.
