Jake advises domestic and international clients, both public and private, on a full range of business matters, including cross-border and Canadian mergers and acquisitions. His primary area of focus is financial services (banking, credit cards, brokerages, insurance, mutual funds and wealth management) but Jake also regularly advises clients in the consumer goods, information technology, and manufacturing sectors. Jake regularly participates in panels on the topic of innovation in the financial services space.

  • Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in connection with senior secured credit facilities in favour of Stantec Inc. to finance its acquisition of MWH Global, Inc.

  • Linamar Corporation on its $1.2-billion acquisition of the MacDon Group of Companies, a global market leader in the design and manufacturing of specialized agriculture harvesting equipment

  • LeasePlan Corporation N.V. on its national fleet management licensing arrangement with Foss National Leasing Ltd.

  • HUB International on the acquisition of various insurance brokerages, including the acquisition of Integro Canada

  • Meltwater on the acquisition of the Infomart media monitoring business from Postmedia Inc.

  • Canadian counsel to FleetCor on its acquisition of Cambridge Mercantile Corp., a business-to-business payments company, for approximately US$650-million

  • The Bank of Nova Scotia on the sale of the business and assets of Roynat Lease Finance, a division of its subsidiary Roynat Inc., to Meridian Credit Union Limited

  • Wells Fargo on the Canadian aspects of its US$31-billion acquisition of GE Capital's global commercial distribution finance and vendor finance businesses

  • Standard Life on the C$4-billion sale of its Canadian insurance business to Manulife

  • Canadian Tire Financial Services on a strategic partnership with the Bank of Nova Scotia, including the sale of a 20% interest in its credit card business for C$500-million

  • Transamerica/AEGON on the C$600-million sale of its Canadian insurance business to Wilton Re/CPPIB

  • Industrial Alliance on its acquisition of Jovian Capital Corporation

  • Bank of America on the sale of its Alaska Airlines portfolio to the Toronto Dominion Bank and of its Shoppers Drug Mart portfolio to the Royal Bank of Canada

  • SunGard on the acquisition of Stratix Consulting, a leading provider of IT consulting services to Canadian financial services

  • The Canadian aspects of the demutualization and flotation of Standard Life

  • The establishment of the Canadian branch of Mizuho Bank and the reorganization of its Canadian operations

  • The organization and start-up of Alpha Trading System by nine of Canada's leading financial institutions
