John has a broad civil and commercial litigation practice and has appeared as counsel in both domestic and foreign proceedings. He completed his articles at the Firm in 2012/2013, during which time he was seconded to a multinational retail corporation, where he worked on a variety of litigation, employment and commercial matters.

Prior to law school, John worked as a journalist in Canada and the United Arab Emirates.


John has recently acted as counsel to:

  • A large petrochemical company in arbitration proceedings in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia involving the termination of a mining services agreement
  • The former owner of an industrial property in a claim arising from the historic migration of contamination from a neighbouring property
  • A government agency in litigation and arbitration proceedings following the termination of a complex, multi-year systems development project

  • A large global mining company in an International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration involving the performance and termination of international supply agreements

  • A large foreign law firm and foreign insurance company in separate proceedings to stay an Ontario claim for lack of jurisdiction

  • Commercial tenants in leasing arbitrations

  • A major automobile manufacturing company in defence of personal injury, product liability and labour matters
  • A luxury automobile manufacturing company defending urgent injunction proceedings
  • A not-for-profit cultural organization in a successful trespass to property injunction
