Emily's practice covers a wide range of civil and commercial matters, including product liability, commercial disputes and class actions. In addition to regular civil proceedings and arbitrations, she represents clients in obtaining, or defending against, injunctions, seizures and other extraordinary proceedings. She advises national and foreign clients, including manufacturers, retailers, pharmaceutical companies, banks and local businesses.

Prior to joining Blakes, Emily developed professional experience working as a teacher for many large companies in both Paris and Berlin.

Emily is fluent in English and French and is conversant in Spanish and German.


Recent representative matters include:

  • Defended corporations in consumer and pharmaceutical class actions

  • Currently defending the interests of a major international pharmaceutical company in a class action respecting side effects allegedly caused by some of its products

  • Part of a team that successfully defended a franchisor against a multi-million dollar claim by its franchisees

  • Successfully represented a TSX Venture Exchange company in its going-private transaction by way of plan of arrangement under the Canada Business Corporations Act

  • Acted on behalf of Bloom Lake General Partner Limited and various affiliates owning one of the largest iron ore mines in Canada, in the context of proceedings filed under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act
