Peter practises corporate and commercial litigation, including complex contractual disputes, tort claims, construction disputes, and commercial arbitration proceedings.

In addition to his litigation practice, Peter's restructuring and insolvency practice involves advising debtor companies, lender syndicates, secured and unsecured creditors, purchasers of distressed assets, debtor-in-possession lenders, and other parties affected by business insolvency issues. He has acted as independent counsel for monitors in reorganization cases under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act as well as Court-appointed receivers.

Prior to joining Blakes in July 2014, Peter practised as a litigation associate with the Calgary office of a leading national firm. While in Calgary, he regularly appeared before Alberta's trial and appellate courts.


Restructuring & Insolvency

  • Counsel to CuVeras LLC and Purcell Basin Minerals in relation to the restructuring of the Stanfield Mining Group.

  • Counsel to the Monitor in the insolvency proceedings of Arthon Industries.

  • Counsel to Court-appointed receivers in the insolvency proceedings of Triton Logging Inc., Lignol Innovations Ltd. and Lignol Energy Corporation, and the Pallan Group.

Commercial Litigation

  • Counsel in arbitration involving the construction of energy infrastructure.

  • Counsel in arbitration involving the operation of energy infrastructure.

  • Counsel to a British Columbia-based casual dining restaurant chain with respect to claims against a construction contractor and various design professionals relating to construction defects.

  • Counsel to a leading Western Canada university, defending a claim by a general contractor, subcontractor and supplier in connection with the replacement of a university facility.
