Neelu's practice focuses on public and private mergers and acquisitions and cross-border transactions. She advises on a wide range of international and domestic capital market and corporate matters, including private equity transactions. Neelu is also experienced in public offerings and private placements of equity and debt securities.

In her M&A practice, Neelu regularly advises on Canadian investment and acquisition transactions. In particular, she has experience advising U.S. and international institutional and strategic investors, private equity sponsors, and public and private corporations in global transactions. As part of her capital markets practice, she has also represented underwriters, issuers and financial sponsors based in Canada, the U.S., Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Prior to joining Blakes, Neelu practised at a preeminent U.S. law firm in its London, England, offices advising on capital markets and M&A transactions.


Representative matters in which Neelu has been involved include advising:

  • Canadian Real Estate Investment Trust (CREIT) on its C$3.9-billion combination with Choice Properties Real Estate Investment Trust

  • Underwriters in connection with the initial public offering of BSR Real Estate Investment Trust of US$135-million of units

  • MCAP Commercial LP in connection with a C$200-million offering of senior secured notes

  • Baring Private Equity Asia on its acquisition of a 35 per cent stake in TELUS International

  • Renewable Energy Trust Capital in connection with the disposition of its North American solar portfolio to Axium Infrastructure

  • Providence Strategic Growth Partners on the acquisitions of Amicus Attorney, Pointstreak Sports Technologies and Goalline Sports and related post-closing restructurings

  • LafargeHolcim on its €6.5-billion divestiture of assets to CRH plc

  • American Securities on its acquisitions of Henry Company LLC and Chromaflo Technologies Corporation

  • 20:20 Mobile Group and the disposal of its business to Brightstar Corporation and the related pre-completion corporate restructuring across several jurisdictions

  • Revlon Consumer Products Corporation with its acquisition of The Colomer Group for US$665-million from CVC Capital Partners

  • The Arab Republic of Egypt with the establishment of its US$12-billion Euro medium term note program and listing the notes on the Irish Stock Exchange

  • HellermannTyton Group PLC with its £420-million initial public offering and premium listing on the London Stock Exchange and HellermannTyton Alpha Sarl with the issuance of €220-million floating rate senior secured notes and listing the notes on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange

  • Several fund and direct investments by leading Canadian pension fund institutions, including private equity and real estate investments, in the U.S., Asia and Europe
