Sheizana maintains a corporate commercial practice and has acted as counsel to companies in a variety of industries from oil and gas, infrastructure, electricity, and agri-business, to financial services and automotive.

Her experience involves advising clients on a broad range of matters, including project development, mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, outsourcing, project financing, corporate reorganizations and service arrangements. Her related experience includes design, engineering, construction and procurement matter on infrastructure projects, as well as negotiating and drafting purchase and sale, operation and maintenance, joint and co-venture, partnership, transportation, and other commercial agreements.

Sheizana also worked as in-house counsel on secondment with two prominent Canadian resource companies.

Prior to joining Blakes, Sheizana served as general counsel of a multinational organization in Central Asia overseeing legal affairs and government relations activities. She was the primary and responsible lawyer for a multi-campus construction project in three countries involving negotiations with local and international contractors and suppliers.


Sheizana has acted as counsel on matters advising:

  • Trican Well Service Ltd. in relation to master service agreement arrangements in North America, and joint venture matters in Saudi Arabia

  • Sadara Chemical Company, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical, on construction and commercial matters for its petrochemical complex located in Jubail, Saudi Arabia as well as general corporate matters

  • Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company (YASREF) limited, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Sinopec, in connection with corporate matters

  • Cenovus Energy Inc. in its acquisition of the North American Terminal Operations business from Canexus Corporation, including a crude-by-rail trans-loading facility and associated storage and pipeline infrastructure in Bruderheim, Alberta
  • BluEarth Renewables in relation to the construction, operation and maintenance of a 29.2 MW wind power project in Alberta and a 33 MW hydro power project in British Columbia
  • A prominent Canadian resource company in respect of supply arrangements and upstream commercial agreements, as well as the development of a micro-generation project

  • Agrium Inc. in connection with its C$1.8-billion supported funding of Glencore International plc's C$6.1-billion acquisition of Viterra Inc. and various acquisitions related to its retail agriculture and fertilizer businesses
  • ENMAX Corporation in commercial matters relating to the development of its Shepard Energy Centre, an 800 megwatt, natural-gas-fired, combined-cycle, electricity generation facility in Calgary, Alberta, including for construction and operations
  • TransCanada Energy Ltd. in its 900 MW Napanee Generating Station project agreements
  • A biomass power plant acquisition and project financing
