Roy is an associate in our Litigation & Dispute Resolution group. He maintains a general commercial and civil litigation practice, with a particular interest in corporate commercial and constitutional litigation. Roy has appeared before the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta and the Court of Appeal of Alberta.

Roy completed his J.D. (honours) at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law and has a B.A. (honours) in politics and philosophy from McGill University. During law school, he volunteered with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre, Downtown Legal Services and the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law Review. Roy has published in the Canadian Business Law Journal, the Estates, Trusts and Pensions Journal and The Advocates’ Quarterly.

Roy was a summer student in the Calgary and Toronto offices. Before returning to the Firm in Calgary, he completed his articles as a judicial law clerk at the Court of Appeal of Alberta.

SELECT EXPERIENCE
  • Assisting with the representation of a public-interest organization in its intervention regarding the constitutionality of an Alberta law which facilitates Gay-Straight Alliances and protects the privacy of LGBTQ+ youth

  • Advising a client on conflict of laws issues arising in the context of an international arbitration

  • Assisting with an arbitration relating to a multi-national corporation’s insurance claim dispute worth C$300-million

  • Assisting with the defence of a major bank against allegations of bad faith, breach of contract, and negligent misrepresentation

  • Assisting with an arbitration between major energy companies relating to a dispute over facility ownership and entitlement to extracted product, and allegations of operator negligence
