Elyse’s practice focuses on energy regulation, as well as environmental, administrative and Aboriginal law issues. She has experience in a broad range of regulatory and litigation matters, including regulatory compliance and reclamation issues, project approvals, stakeholder consultation, surface land rights acquisition and compensation.

Elyse has appeared before the Provincial Court and Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta. She has also assisted clients in matters before the Alberta Energy Regulator, Alberta Surface Rights Board and Alberta Utilities Commission.

Prior to joining Blakes, Elyse worked as an associate at another law firm in Central Alberta. She also served as a judicial law clerk for the Court of Appeal of Alberta.

  • Assisting with the negotiation of surface land rights agreements between a pipeline company and private landowners in connection with a pipeline licence amendment application

  • Advising and representing clients in compensation proceedings before the Alberta Surface Rights Board

  • Participating in proceedings before the Surface Rights Board involving the determination of ongoing licensee liability

  • Assisting with application proceedings before the Alberta Utilities Commission involving the alteration and replacement of existing transmission facilities

  • Preparing complex access and reclamation agreements related to oilfield activities regulated by the Alberta Energy Regulator
