Blakes to Announce Groundbreaking Research Regarding Women GCs on Public Company Boards

May 4, 2017

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s leading business law firms, is shortly to announce some groundbreaking research on opportunities at board level for women general counsel in Canada.

The Blakes Board Report: Opportunities for Women General Counsel profiles the current landscape for women general counsel on boards at public companies. The study, the first of its kind in Canada, will be exclusively revealed at Blakes Board Opportunities for Women General Counsel program, taking place on Thursday, May 18. Results from the report examine the involvement of general counsel and lawyers on the board of directors of Canadian publicly listed companies that comprise the S&P/TSX Composite Index. The S&P/TSX Composite Index is the benchmark index for the Canadian equity market, representing roughly 80 per cent of the total market capitalization on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX).

The research is part of our intention to help inform a candid and open exchange on the value proposition that general counsel bring to the board position and to also highlight the board opportunities for women GCs.
