Accounts Payable Administrator

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (“Blakes”), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, has an immediate opening for a candidate with strong technical skills and a great attitude to join the Finance Department in the Toronto office as an Accounts Payable Administrator.
 
Reporting to the Director, Financial Operations, the successful candidate will be responsible for completing payments and controlling expenses by receiving, processing, verifying and reconciling invoices.
 
The preferred hours of work for this position are 9:00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.
 
Primary responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicating daily with internal clients of the Firm and with external vendors

  • Paying invoices by verifying transaction information; scheduling and preparing disbursements; and obtaining authorization of payment

  • Maintaining accounting ledgers by posting account transactions

  • Verifying accounts by reconciling statements and transactions; properly coding GL on invoices before management signs off; and ensuring proper documentations/approvals are submitted with invoices 

  • Resolving account discrepancies by investigating documentation; issuing stop payments or adjustments

  • Maintaining financial security by following internal accounting controls

  • Maintaining financial historical records by filing accounting documents

  • Performing other duties as required to achieve firm objectives including assistance with special projects

Qualifications
Education/Experience:

  • University or college diploma, preferably in accounting or finance

  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in the legal or professional services industry 

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent client service, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong Microsoft Office Excel skills

  • Motivated individual who possesses superior technical and bookkeeping skills

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles

  • Works effectively as part of a team as well as independently

  • Ability to work in a high volume and deadline-driven environment

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks at once
