Bilingual (English/French) Proposal Specialist

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, has an immediate opening for an excellent writer with strong analytical skills and a great attitude to join the Client Relations & Marketing team as a bilingual (English/French) Proposal Specialist. This is a firmwide role based in Montréal or Toronto.
Reporting to the Director, Client Value, and working closely with the Director, Firm Marketing Communications, PR and Quebec BD, and the Senior Proposal Counsel, the Proposal Specialist will also work closely with lawyers, marketing colleagues and other administrative departments to create industry-leading pitch and proposal materials. The successful candidate must be comfortable working virtually across all offices and enjoy working in a fast-paced team setting.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing proposal/pitch documents from start to finish, including developing a strategic approach, drawing on existing content, and drafting original, customized content based on client needs; establishing and meeting deadlines for efficient on-time delivery of materials; and arranging for and executing debrief discussions

  • Providing support to proposal team, directors and managers

  • Assisting in project-managing bid opportunities, including coordinating large national, multi-practice and multi-office bids

  • Overseeing the RFP database, including the collection and organization of precedent materials

  • Assisting with the maintenance and development of RFP-related content and metrics

  • Assisting in the creation of presentations for client pitches

  • Assisting in periodic writing and editing projects


  • University diploma with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in the legal or professional services industry

  • Fluently bilingual in English and French, both spoken and written


  • Experience practicing law in any jurisdiction (considered an asset)

  • Experience with writing, editing and formatting proposals

  • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to receive feedback in stride and a commitment to ongoing development

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, MS Outlook and Excel

  • Experience with any of the following is considered a plus: SharePoint, inDesign and Illustrator

  • Extremely well organized with superb attention to detail and excellent time-management skills

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships

  • Proactive thinker with the ability and willingness to listen and influence

  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment

  • Personal integrity, discretion and a strong client-service orientation

  • A team player who works well independently

  • A strong sense of humour will be indispensable
