Human Resources Manager
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, is seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to join the Human Resources department in the Toronto office.
The Human Resources Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to both business leaders and employees, supporting the implementation of HR strategies and initiatives such as employee relations, training and development, compensation and benefits, and performance management. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in HR management, outstanding interpersonal and problem-solving abilities, and a genuine enthusiasm for fostering employee growth and development.
Primary responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Providing guidance and counselling to leaders in all aspects of people management and the employee lifecycle, from workforce planning and development to performance management and termination.
- Proactively maintaining strong relationships with employees by managing all aspects of employee relations, including coaching and conflict resolution, ensuring employee issues are addressed effectively.
- Leading and supporting managers and employees through key annual processes, including performance and pay review and workforce planning and budgeting.
- Working closely with the Total Rewards team on short-term and long-term employee absences and assisting with facilitating Return-to-Work programs.
- Working closely with the Recruitment team to fill vacant or new roles, including participating in the interview process, giving recruitment updates to leaders and providing guidance on candidate selection.
- Managing all administrative tasks, from data entry to documentation, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of all HR commitments to employees and leaders.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Diploma or degree in human resources management, psychology, organizational behaviour or other related field is required.
- Minimum of four years of HR employee relations experience, ideally in a professional services environment.
- CHRP designation is required.
Skills/Abilities:
- Thorough knowledge of HR management principles and best practices
- Excellent knowledge of employment legislation and regulations
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills, coupled with coaching and influencing skills, and working with business leaders to solve complex problems
- Strong, active listening skills with the ability to build relationships and trust at all levels within the organization
- Strong customer-service orientation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational proficiency, with the versatility to accommodate regular interruptions and unexpected workflow adjustments
- Demonstrated tact and respect for all employees, with proven aptitude to manage in a confidential and sensitive context
- Team player willing to assist peers as needed
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel and Word
