Legal Assistant, Employment & Labour (18-Month Contract)

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant to join the Employment & Labour group in the Toronto office. This position is an 18-month contract.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining physical and electronic filing systems (e-filing/organizing)

  • Preparing, serving and filing court documents, including Superior Court of Ontario, Small Claim Court, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and Ontario Labour Relations Board

  • Editing and proofreading dockets

  • Managing, monitoring and maintaining calendars for potential meetings, materials for meetings, etc.

  • Responsible for general administrative duties such as scheduling appointments and meetings, booking meeting rooms, making travel arrangements

  • Additional legal and administrative support responsibilities as required


  • Legal Assistant diploma or equivalent

  • Employment & labour and/or litigation experience is an asset but not required


  • Experience with serving and filing documents

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong ability to handle multiple tasks and projects and meet deadlines

  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)is required

  • Hours of work will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; however, regular working hours are subject to change depending on Firm requirements
