Marketing Technology Specialist
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s largest and most successful law firms, is growing their team! We are currently looking for a Marketing Technology Specialist to join the Marketing Technology team in the Client Relations & Marketing department. We welcome applicants from Montréal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. This role reports to the Manager, Marketing Technology.
The Marketing Technology Specialist is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and application of various marketing technologies and solutions to support the Firm’s marketing and business development efforts. The Specialist must:
- Be current on the latest technology and best practices on e-marketing deployment and CRM system management
- Apply their skills on the deployment of our thought leadership
- Ensure lawyers and staff are utilizing the Firm’s CRM system to its fullest potential for business development purposes
- Collaborate with the Business Development and Marketing Communications teams on strategic technology projects
The Marketing Technology team has overall responsibility for advancing the Firm’s marketing technology stack, managing data and reporting capabilities across the stack, and contributing to the continuous improvement of marketing operations.
Primary responsibilities include:
CRM (30%)
- Collaborate with the Business Development team on the effective and efficient use of the CRM
- Ensure the CRM is a highly valuable resource that is aligned with the Firm’s strategy of developing and maintaining long-term business development relationships
- Support the Business Development team with the creation and maintenance of marketing distribution lists, coordinate additional sends and record attendee activity
- Execute on the CRM’s data management program and enforce data quality standards including best practices for data entry, nomenclature standards, taxonomy, and archiving
- Troubleshoot technical problems that may arise and ensure that appropriate solutions are actioned, including the engagement of the vendor’s technical support when needed
- Coordinate with the Information Technology team on resolving technical issues
- Create and maintain process documentation and user guides
- Develop technical solutions to upload/export data to/from the CRM
- Ensure compliance with CASL and GDPR with all marketing activities
E-Marketing and Automation (50%)
- Serve as expert on the effective and efficient use of the e-marketing deployment system including contact management
- Coordinate with the Business Development and Marketing Communications teams on the distribution of e-marketing campaigns which includes but is not limited to seminar/event invitations and bulletins/thought leadership
- Continuously review the deployment schedule and coordinate with stakeholders on timelines ensuring e-marketing campaigns are deployed on deadline and follow our processes
- Create e-marketing campaigns that adhere to our standard templates and Firm’s brand guidelines
- Apply automation routines as required
- Execute on data cleansing projects across the system by applying best practices and taxonomy
- Diagnose and troubleshoot any problems that may arise to ensure that appropriate solutions are actioned, including the engagement of the vendor’s technical support when needed
- Find creative solutions to technical problems and tweak HTML code as needed
- Create and maintain process documents, intake forms, checklists, and user guides
- Use a workflow and team collaboration app for scheduling deployments
- Assist with continuous assessment and improvement of current processes
Marketing Operations (10%)
- Assists in maintaining the department’s workflow and team collaboration app
- Collaborate with team members on building new processes in the collaboration app
- Help with the onboarding and training of users across the marketing stack
- Ensure the Firm’s data retention policies are applied consistently across the marketing stack
- Recommend and implement strategic and tactical solutions to improve business processes
- Perform first-level technical support across the marketing stack
- Monitor the shared inbox and respond to requests/questions from internal stakeholders
Reporting & Data Analytics (5%)
- Execute on the delivery of metrics and reporting across the marketing stack
- Train the Business Development and Communications teams on self-serve reporting
- Maintain dashboards and templates
- Contribute to best practices around data management
Technology Evaluation (5%)
- Participate in major technology evaluations and contribute throughout the technology lifecycle (i.e., business case development, technical requirements analysis, RFP, implementation, change management, training, maintenance, decommissioning)
Training & Adoption
- Contribute to best practices in the use of marketing technology
- Train lawyers and staff one-on-one and in group sessions
- Coordinate with the Firm’s training and development team to develop training programs and materials including CASL training documentation
Market Developments
- Stay current on market trends in (legal) market technology and best practices
- Professional Development
- Attend conferences as directed
- Upgrade skills based on business need
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business or related field
- Minimum of five to seven years of work experience, preferably in professional services
- Experience with CRM/ERM/DQM systems and email marketing systems
- Experience with applying CASL/GDPR requirements
Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of client relationship management and e-marketing
- General understanding of business development and professional services marketing
- Passion for data management and the desire to learn new database technology
- Experience querying data from different marketing systems and building reports using data reporting tools (such as Microsoft Power BI)
- Ability to analyze data and create summary reports
- Advanced skills in using Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas, charts)
- Experience in using workflow collaboration or project management tools (such as Wrike, Monday, Asana)
- Experience working remotely and using Microsoft Teams
- Demonstrated experience in staying current with the latest trends in marketing technology and ability to learn new technologies quickly
- Client-service oriented
- Excellent communication and business writing skills
- Bilingualism an asset
- Strong business acumen
- Strong attention to detail is business critical
- Ability to work effectively in a team and autonomously when needed
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment with short deadlines
