Victoria's practice focuses on regulatory compliance in the financial services industry. She provides advice to Canadian and foreign banks, representative offices, insurance companies, trust and loan companies, credit unions, commercial and consumer finance companies, and a wide variety of other regulated financial service providers. She works with both domestic and international clients.
Victoria advises on compliance with federal and provincial legislation. She is developing particular expertise regarding cost of borrowing legislation, payment cards and provincial regulation of consumer contracts, including direct and remote sales programs. As financial institutions increasingly offer products and services online, Victoria is gaining experience with e-commerce matters such as mobile payments and electronic authentication.
In addition to advising on day-to-day compliance, Victoria helps clients with strategic projects, including developing compliance programs, internal policies and procedures and new financial products and services. She frequently works with regulators, including the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), on behalf of clients seeking approvals. She also advises clients on the regulatory aspects of corporate transactions.
Victoria assists in debt financing and other related transactions, representing lenders and borrowers in domestic and international financial institutions.
