Ian is a commercial litigator with a focus on dispute resolution in the transportation and energy sectors. Ian has acted as counsel in litigation and arbitration involving cargo, casualty, construction, and contract claims relating to all modes of transportation. He also advises on transactions involving the construction and sale of ships and involving maritime and multi-modal transportation. Ian also represents energy, oilfield services, and pipeline companies in commercial and construction-related disputes.
Prior to joining Blakes, Ian practiced at a major regional firm in Atlantic Canada, where he gained extensive experience in maritime law and commercial litigation, including as a protection and indemnity club correspondent. Prior to becoming an associate, Ian clerked at the Federal Court of Canada.
In addition to his transportation and energy law practice, Ian has experience in a variety of areas and industries, such as banking, construction, municipal, insolvency, administrative, and Aboriginal law.
Ian has acted as counsel in matters before all levels of the Alberta, Nova Scotia, and Federal Courts.
