In 2012, Réal was awarded the title Lawyer Emeritus by the Barreau du Québec. Each year, this award is presented to members of the order who gain distinction as a result of their outstanding professional career, outstanding contribution to the profession or outstanding social and community standing.

Professional Activities

Réal has maintained a very active role in several professional organizations, such as the Quebec Bar Association and the Canadian Bar Association, where he has held leadership positions, including as president of the Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties Section of the Quebec Branch, as vice-president and joint president of the National Constitutional and Human Rights Law Section.

Réal has also been a professor at the Faculty of Law of the Université de Montréal and an associate executive director the Quebec Justice Department's Constitutional Law Directorate.
