Professional Activities

Allan has served as a consultant to the Department of Finance in connection with the GST/PST harmonization project and has assisted in the preparation of the GST Guide for Consumers of Legal Services and for Lawyers. He has written for the GST & Commodity Tax Newsletter, the Canadian International Lawyer, the Lex Mundi World Reports and the Sales Tax, Customs & Trade Journal. He has also lectured at the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Commodity Tax Symposium and at CPA's in-depth commodity tax course.

Allan is a member of the GST Leaders Forum, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Canadian Financing & Leasing Association Tax Committee, the Canadian Bar Association/Canada Border Services Agency Customs Committee and is past chair of the Canadian Bar Association Commodity Tax, Customs and Trade Section. He was appointed a member of the Department of Finance HST Focus Group to review proposed HST legislation involving financial institutions. Allan has also served as a member of the Advisory Committee of the CPA Commodity Tax Symposium.

Allan is the editor of the CBA National Commodity Tax, Customs and Trade Section Newsletter and a member of the editorial board for the Sales Tax, Customs & Trade Journal (Thomson Reuters Canada).
