Joey returns to Blakes as an Articled Student after summering with the Firm in 2019. He recently received his J.D. from the University of British Columbia.
During his studies he was awarded multiple scholarships and won a Factum Prize and the Spirit of the Laskin Award at the Laskin Moot. Joey served as a director of LSLAP and the Environmental Law Group and was an assistant editor of the UBC Law Review. He also participated in the pilot program for the Indigenous Legal Studies Program’s Cultural Competency Certificate.
Joey also studied at Leiden University in the Netherlands and was awarded a Certificate in Public and Private International Law from the Hague Academy at the Peace Palace. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of British Columbia in English Literature.
Prior to law school, Joey worked as a songwriter in Los Angeles. He serves on the Board of the Environmental Youth Alliance, a registered charity dedicated to providing outdoor education and employment training to BIPOC youth in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. He enjoys sailing, scuba diving and motorcycling.
