Dalton has extensive experience and a proven successful track record as lead counsel on some of the highest profile litigation and arbitration cases in Canada including the recent successful defence of a C$12-billion Federal Court trial nominated by Benchmark as an "Impact Case of the Year". He is a senior and highly respected litigator whom is routinely described as being innovative, result-driven, highly skilled and focused on client-centered service. He is a trusted advisor to some of the most successful companies and persons in Canada. He deals with a wide range of commercial matters including contract, fraud cases, energy, oil and gas, cybersecurity, environmental, directors' and officers' liability, class action defence and competition disputes. Dalton has litigated and successfully collected about C$3-billion in matters involving material adverse change and material adverse event disputes.
Dalton frequently appears as lead counsel in all levels of courts and has extensive domestic and international arbitration experience. He was appointed as a Queen's Counsel (Q.C.) in 2010 and is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). He also undertakes extensive pro bono work as described below and was awarded the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award in recognition of that work.
