Matters in which Justin has been involved include representing:

  • Canadian Pacific Railway Corporation (CPRC) in actions against the Governments of Canada, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba to recover taxes paid in contravention of a provision of the 1880 Charter of CPRC, which states that the main line shall "be forever free from taxation"

  • Companies and entities in complex commercial disputes, including contractual disputes, procurement litigation, product liability claims, and intellectual property disputes

  • Newspapers, other media, and individuals in defamation and libel actions, as well as providing them with advice in that regard

  • A journalist in a judicial review proceeding involving Charter issues

  • Arbitration societies acting as interveners before the Supreme Court of Canada in Heller v. Uber et al.

Professional Activities

Justin provides pro bono assistance to various organizations and individuals. He volunteers with Pro Bono Ontario's Duty Counsel Project and acts as a supervising lawyer at the Pro Bono Students Canada Lawyers Feed the Hungry ID Project. Since 2018, he has assisted with the administration of the Wilson Moot, which focuses on constitutional law issues affecting equity-seeking groups.

Justin is also a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, and The Advocates' Society.
