Sydney returns to Blakes as a 2020-21 Articling Student after joining the firm as a Summer Student in 2018. She obtained her J.D. from Queen's University Belfast. In October 2019, Sydney successfully defended her doctoral dissertation entitled: The role and significance of public participation in determining whether major energy development decisions are 'in the public interest': A comparative analysis of England & Wales and Canada. During law school, she completed a semester 'abroad' at the University of Alberta.
Prior to law school, Sydney obtained a B.A. in English and Political Science (Hons) from Dalhousie University and a Master's degree in Public Policy from the University of Calgary. She also worked for Canada's largest upstream oil and gas association as a policy and regulatory analyst. Following her first year of law, Sydney worked as a legal summer student at a major pipeline company in Calgary.
In her spare time, Sydney enjoys playing golf and soccer, travelling and drinking wine.
