About Tony

Tony’s practice focuses on real property transactions, corporate and commercial (including construction) matters, infrastructure projects and public-private partnerships. He has experience advising parties involved in buying, selling, leasing, developing and financing properties from all asset classes. Tony also frequently prepares, reviews and negotiates construction contracts, and advises on a range of other commercial agreements related to the supply of goods and services, such as major equipment, professional consulting, and operation and maintenance agreements. Tony has experience acting on major infrastructure and public-private partnership projects across the Canadian market.

Tony advises a wide variety of clients, including owners, contractors, retailers, property managers and developers, major Canadian pension funds and their advisors, life insurance companies, institutional lenders and investors, and renewable energy companies.

Real Property

  • Representing a major developer and investor on complex joint venture and co-ownership arrangements to acquire, finance and develop multi-unit residential and commercial development sites

  • Representing lenders and borrowers on construction and commercial real estate loans secured by major Canadian properties

  • Representing multi-national retailers in lease negotiations across Canada

  • Representing a major Canadian pension fund manager on the sale of a multi-tenant office tower

Construction and Infrastructure

  • Representing owners and contractors on the negotiation and administration of procurement and construction agreements for office, multi-family residential and retail projects

  • Advising a Western Canadian university on procurement and construction matters

  • Representing the successful proponent on a major healthcare project

  • Representing a short-listed proponent for a large courthouse project

  • Representing a short-listed proponent for a long-term care facility project

Professional Activities

Tony is a member of The Law Society of British Columbia, the Canadian Bar Association (Real Property and Construction Law Subsections, BC Branch) and the Urban Development Institute (Pacific Region).

Tony is an adjunct professor at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia, where he teaches a course on real estate transactions.
