Chris is co-chair of the Blakes Cannabis group and his practice focuses on commercial, financing and regulatory matters under the federal Cannabis Act and the various provincial and territorial regimes. He regularly advises applicants, licensees, retailers, brands, service providers, First Nations and members of adjacent industries on all manner of cannabis-related mandates. Chris was previously seconded to the legal department of one of Canada's leading licensed producers where he advised on a wide variety of issues related to the space.
In addition to his cannabis practice, Chris has experience with a wide range of corporate and commercial matters, including mergers and acquisitions, private equity, institutional investments and divestitures, distressed acquisitions (both solvent and insolvent), and other complex corporate restructurings and commercial transactions. He has experience acting for domestic and foreign clients in a variety of industries, including financial services, emerging technology, agriculture and controlled substances. Chris also has experience in restructuring and insolvency matters, including acting for creditors, debtors and restructuring professionals before all levels of court in Alberta and the Supreme Court of Canada.
