Representative matters in which Matthew has been involved include:

  • Advising a large multinational corporation in the litigation of breach of contract and negligence claims related to a high-profile commercial construction project

  • Representing a major oil and gas company in the litigation of claims related to the release and remediation of substances at a bulk petroleum storage and transfer facility

  • Acting for a large employer in the investigation and litigation of fraud, theft, breach of fiduciary duty, and other claims against its former employees

  • Litigating the refusal of an insurer to provide coverage to a corporate insured pursuant to a commercial general liability insurance policy

  • Acting for both landlords and tenants in the arbitration of lease audits and renewals pursuant to commercial lease agreements

  • Representing a major Canadian financial institution in the litigation and enforcement of personal guarantees on unpaid corporate loans

  • Acting as Independent Supervising Solicitor in the enforcement of a hybrid Anton Piller/Replevin order as part of a civil fraud investigation

  • Assisting a major multinational corporation with an internal corporate investigation related to regulatory and criminal offences occurring across multiple international jurisdictions

  • Obtaining an injunction for an employer against a disgruntled former employee who refused to relinquish control of corporate property following the termination of his employment

  • Defending a large oil and gas company against charges brought pursuant to Alberta's Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act
