Robert’s practice focuses on intellectual property, information technology, privacy and cybersecurity.
From an IT perspective, Robert advises on the negotiation of diverse technology-related agreements relating to IT outsourcing, cloud computing, enterprise software licensing, trading systems, data feeds and other systems and services supporting IT, finance and investment management. He also assists with regulatory and contractual compliance reviews, including managing software licensing audits.
Robert’s IP practice includes protecting and enforcing IP (patents, trademarks and designs), with a particular expertise in computer-implemented, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and machine learning-related inventions.
Robert is a certified information privacy professional. He has experience in a broad range of privacy matters, including responding to cybersecurity incidents, negotiating privacy terms of agreements, drafting privacy policies and complying with Canada's anti-spam legislation and other data protection laws.
Robert also assists clients with aspects of corporate transactions, dispute resolution, corporate governance and risk management relevant to his practice areas.
Prior to joining Blakes, Robert worked at a major Canadian pension fund, as well as several IP boutiques in Toronto, where he assisted with a range of IP and commercial matters.
