Blakes Competition Practice Ranked as Elite Worldwide

January 19, 2017

Blakes is pleased to announce that its Competition, Antitrust & Foreign Investment group has once again been recognized by the Global Competition Review's GCR 100 in the "Elite" category for Canada – the review's highest designation. Blakes has been ranked as Elite in the GCR 100 since 2010.

GCR notes that "the firm has handled a flood of mega deals, which have often needed clearance from multiple enforcers, including Canada's Competition Bureau." Our deal practice in the past year has encompassed the full range of challenging M&A matters in Canada, including litigated mergers, contentious international mergers cleared in Canada without remedies, mergers cleared using Canada's notable "efficiencies" defence, and challenging domestic mergers.

"We owe our success to our clients and are fortunate to be trusted by them to handle complex, strategic and time sensitive matters," says Brian Facey, Chair of the Competition, Antitrust & Foreign Investment group.

In addition, the group has added three new partners this year: Cassandra Brown, Joshua Krane and Kevin MacDonald. "The promotion of these new partners reflects the increased importance of this practice area in the global economy," says Facey. "We are thrilled to have Cassie, Josh and Kevin continue this phase of their career with Blakes."

Blakes is widely regarded as having the leading competition law practice in Canada and was awarded Canadian Competition Law Firm of the Year for 2016 by Chambers Canada: Canada's Leading Lawyers for Business.
