Celebrating Our 9th Annual Women’s Event

October 6, 2016

Blakes is pleased to announce that on Wednesday, October 5, we celebrated our 9th annual women’s networking event in Toronto at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Blakes has long been committed to promoting the advancement of women in both business and law, and our women’s events, in particular, are designed to inspire and connect like-minded women professionals.

Setting the stage for the evening was our keynote speaker, Brigid Schulte, an award-winning Washington Postjournalist and author of the NY Times bestseller Overwhelmed: Work, Love & Play When No One Has the Time. More than 500 guests joined Blakes women partners and associates from our Toronto office as Brigid recounted her thought-provoking, and often humorous, journey of seeking to understand what it takes to live “the good life” across race, class and gender.

Other notable guests we have been honoured to host at past events include The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Indo-Canadian director and film writer Mira Nair, and author Claire Shipman, to name a few.

Our first women’s event was held in 2008, the same year we formally established our Women@Blakes network to further enhance business, professional and recruiting opportunities for women both within and outside the Firm. Since then, our event has grown to include our Calgary and Montréal offices.
