Nine-Time Winner of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers Award

December 12, 2016

We are pleased to announce that Blakes has once again been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. This is the ninth time we have received this recognition — more than any other law firm — having previously won from 2007 to 2012 and in 2015 and 2016. The award was presented to winners at a special luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto on Monday, December 12. The winners were also featured in a special magazine published in the Metro edition of The Globe and Mail and on Eluta.ca.

“At Blakes, our people and their well-being are central to our success,” said Mary Jackson, Chief Officer of Professional Resources at Blakes. “We work hard to attract talented people and then provide a supportive and inclusive work environment where everyone has opportunity for growth and development. We create programming and initiatives that focus on both the professional and personal development of all our employees, and that supports an environment of mutual respect and teamwork in which everyone will thrive.”

“It’s not hard to see the connection between inclusion and the employers that are succeeding in Greater Toronto’s highly competitive marketplace,” says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor at Mediacorp Canada Inc., which manages the project. “The GTA is a magnet for the best and brightest people not just from across Canada, but all over the world. If your organization isn’t changing to make these employees feel welcome and valued in your workplace, you simply won’t attract the best employees.”

Now in its 11th year, the award recognizes employers based on the following key areas: (1) physical workplace; (2) work and social atmosphere; (3) health, financial and family benefits; (4) vacation and time off; (5) employee communications; (6) performance management; (7) training and skills development; and (8) community involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.
