Blakes to Serve as Chair of the Chamber’s Canadian Blockchain Policy Group

TORONTO -- Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP has joined the Chamber of Digital Commerce, the world’s largest trade association representing the digital asset and blockchain industries. As Chair of the Chamber’s Canadian Blockchain Policy Group, Blakes is leading the legal conversation on distributed ledger technologies in Canada.

The mission of the Chamber of Digital Commerce is to promote the acceptance and use of digital assets and blockchain-based technologies. It represents the world’s leading innovators, operators and investors involved in these areas, including startups, software companies, financial institutions and investment firms.

Through education, advocacy and working closely with policymakers, regulators and the industry, the Chamber aims to develop a pro-growth legal environment that fosters innovation, jobs and investment.

Blakes recently brought together Canada’s pre-eminent technology, financial services regulatory and M&A practices to form the Blakes Fintech (financial technology) group.

“We believe there is an enormous amount of potential in fintech and blockchain technology but also a clear need for organizations to be aware of regulation and risk,” said Jacqueline Shinfield, Partner at Blakes and Co-Head of the group. “Our role within the Chamber is another way for us to expand our insight into this industry and its related technology.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP to the Chamber of Digital Commerce. Canada has a very well-positioned industry and regulatory landscape for blockchain adoption, and we look forward to working with Blakes to promote this technology in Canada,” said Perianne Boring, Founder and President of the Chamber of Digital Commerce.

The Chamber and Blakes are hosting a Blockchain Financial Services Roundtable on November 16 in Toronto.
