Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP is pleased to announce that Partner Jonathan Kahn has been elected Chair of the American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Environment, Energy and Resources (SEER). Jonathan is the first non-American in ABA history to be elected to this role. He is also the first non-American to serve on SEER's Executive Committee.
Representing more than 8,500 members including lawyers, advisors, law students and decision-makers, the ABA SEER provides a premier forum for dialogue and professional development in these substantive areas of law.
Jonathan has been involved with the ABA for many years. He became a member of its Executive Committee in 2015 and a member of the SEER Governing Council in 2012 after serving as chair of several substantive committees. In 2011, he was the first non-American to chair the ABA’s Annual Conference on Environmental Law. Jonathan is also a former chair of the National Environment, Energy and Resources Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association and the Environmental Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association.
Jonathan has practised environmental law for over 30 years and is one of Canada’s leading environmental lawyers. In his Toronto-based role as Chair of the Blakes Environmental group, he continues to advise Canadian and international clients on environmental and natural resources law issues and represent accused corporations in significant environmental disputes. He is internationally recognized as a leading environmental lawyer in publications including Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Lawyers for Business, The Legal 500 in Canada, Who’s Who Legal: Global and The Best Lawyers in Canada.
