Named One of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers for Eighth Time

We are pleased to announce that Blakes has once again been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. Blakes is the only law firm to receive this award eight times, having previously won from 2008 to 2011 and 2015 to 2017.
 
According to Mediacorp, “It’s not that difficult to identify the employers that embrace diversity and inclusion: more often than not, these organizations understand that diversity and inclusion create a competitive advantage that helps drive innovation in their organizations.”

Canada’s Best Diversity Employers has been published annually for the past 11 years. Winners are selected based on submissions to the annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers. The survey takes into account employers’ workplace inclusivity from five diverse groups: women; visible minorities; persons with disabilities; Aboriginal Peoples; and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) peoples.
 
The winners were announced in a special magazine published in The Globe and Mail.
 
In addition to sustaining our ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives, we have been working with our clients to foster a more diverse and inclusive profession. This year, Blakes partnered with CIBC to establish ReLaunch, a program to reintegrate talented women lawyers joining the workforce following a career break of two or more years. We have also redoubled our commitment to increasing awareness of mental illness, by augmenting our mental-health benefits for all Firm members, providing mental health training to our leadership teams, and working to reduce stigma related to mental illness within the communities where we live and work.
