Blakes is pleased to welcome the Honourable Michael H. Tulloch, Chief Justice of Ontario, for a timely conversation on the role of civility and professionalism in successful legal practice. The Chief Justice will also discuss his newly established Advisory Committee on Professionalism and the challenges it has been tasked with considering.
Civility does not require lawyers to be less forceful or less ambitious. When practised well, it can make advocacy more persuasive, negotiations more productive and client relationships stronger. It can also enhance a lawyer’s reputation, generate referrals and make difficult matters easier to resolve.
The discussion will offer practical guidance on how lawyers can be demanding without being demeaning, disagree without becoming disagreeable and develop a professional reputation that attracts clients and earns the confidence of colleagues and opposing counsel.
The program will also feature Blakes Partners Brian Facey, Cathy Beagan Flood and Emily Hazlett, who will bring perspectives from litigation, transactional practice, client relationships and Firm leadership.
Guest Speaker: The Honourable Michael H. Tulloch, Chief Justice of Ontario
This program is the inaugural session in a new series featuring the Chief Justice of Ontario on professionalism in legal practice.
