Elyse's practice focuses on energy regulation, as well as environmental, administrative and Indigenous law issues. She has experience in a broad range of regulatory and litigation matters, including regulatory compliance and reclamation issues, project approvals, tolls and tariffs, stakeholder consultation, surface land rights acquisition and compensation.
Elyse frequently acts for clients in regulatory proceedings to obtain approvals for major developments in the oil and gas, pipeline, petrochemical, electricity transmission, and renewable energy sectors. She also advises clients in a variety of matters involving commercial transactions, tolls and tariffs, compliance proceedings, greenhouse gas emissions, environmental assessments, decommissioning and reclamation requirements, utility crossings, land rights acquisition and compensation proceedings.
Elyse has assisted clients in matters before the Canada Energy Regulator, Alberta Energy Regulator, Alberta Land and Property Rights Tribunal, Alberta Utilities Commission, Alberta Environmental Appeals Board, and the British Columbia Utilities Commission. She has also appeared before the Provincial Court and Court of King's Bench of Alberta.
Prior to joining Blakes, Elyse worked as an associate at another law firm in Central Alberta. She also served as a judicial law clerk for the Court of Appeal of Alberta.
