About Brenda

Brenda is responsible for developing and implementing programs and initiatives that support and empower women within Blakes and among our clients. Working with senior leadership, Brenda oversees Women@Blakes programming, which provides leadership development, mentorship and community-building opportunities to engage and champion women.

Brenda brings broad, extensive experience to this role, having practised law for over 25 years, both as an in-house legal executive and in private practice, most recently as General Counsel at CPA Canada. Her in-house experience spans a diverse array of entities, including professional services, financial services and regulatory organizations. In these roles, Brenda was known as a trusted advisor, strategic business partner and inclusive leader, focused on the growth and development of the teams she led. Brenda has strong connections across the women general counsel community and has been deeply involved in both the general counsel and board communities in Canada. Brenda began her career practising litigation at a large national business law firm.

Professional Activities

Throughout her career, Brenda has been an active contributor to both her community and the legal profession as a volunteer, mentor and non-profit board member. She has helped develop the next generation of lawyers in her volunteering with moot courts, trial advocacy workshops, legal ethics educational programs, mentoring programs and the First Generation Network. She has also co-led a fundraising and awareness campaign for the United Way Greater Toronto. Brenda has been passionate about the opportunity to serve her community more broadly and currently sits on the boards and governance committees of Camp Kirk and the East End Community Health Centre in Toronto.
